"A Change in the City's Status": The Visit of the South Korean Ambassador to Jerusalem and Future Prospects

Inho Park, the Ambassador of South Korea to Israel and former commander of the South Korean Air Force, conducted a professional visit to Jerusalem on Sunday. The visit was aimed at deepening his familiarity with Israel's capital and the centers of government, innovation, and economy operating within it.

The visit began at the Jerusalem Municipality, where the ambassador was received by Mayor Moshe Lion, who presented his vision for the development of Jerusalem as an international capital that combines history, culture, innovation, and growth. Later, the ambassador toured the municipality with the Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Hitorerut movement, Adir Schwartz, and was introduced to the municipality's activities and the promotion of international collaborations.

"The Diplomat's Guide to Jerusalem"

As part of the visit, the Jerusalem Center for Applied Policy (JCAP) presented the "Diplomat's Guide to Jerusalem" initiative, which provides members of the diplomatic community with an in-depth introduction to Jerusalem from a historical, political, economic, and cultural perspective.

Afterward, the delegation continued to the visitor center of the Jerusalem Winery in Yemin Moshe, where they were hosted by the owners' representative, Carmit Heinrich. During the meeting, the story of the winery, the Jerusalem wine tradition, and its contribution to the city's international branding were presented.

The ambassador concluded the visit with a tour of the technology park in Har Hotzvim, where advanced Israeli developments by leading companies in the fields of health and personal security were showcased, reflecting Jerusalem's status as one of the most prominent centers of innovation and high-tech in Israel.

The visit highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation between Jerusalem and South Korea in the fields of innovation, health, investment, and international relations, as well as the interest of highly developed countries in Israel's capital.

"The Economic Capital of the Middle East"

"I welcome the visit of the South Korean Ambassador to Jerusalem and was happy to host him in my office," said Mayor Moshe Lion. "It was exciting to hear his impressions of the city and the development it is undergoing. Jerusalem is a young and vibrant city of 3,000 years, combining history with innovation and growth.

Our goal is to make Jerusalem not only the economic capital of Israel but also the economic capital of the entire Middle East. Visits of this kind strengthen international ties and create new opportunities for cooperation and investment."

Ambassador Ran Ishay, a retired diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: "In recent years, one can observe a consistent change in the international status of Jerusalem. Since the recognition and the relocation of the US Embassy to the city, many other countries have recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in varying degrees of formality, including the relocation of embassies and the opening of representative offices."

Ishay, who also serves as the head of the research department of the Jerusalem Center for Applied Policy (JCAP), emphasized: "Moreover, there is growing recognition of Jerusalem as a leading technological, cultural, and economic city on the international stage. In this context, diplomats and senior ambassadors stationed in Israel visit the city to examine the expansion of their countries' political and economic activities here."

Adir Schwartz, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of Hitorerut in Jerusalem, added: "I was happy to host the ambassador and his team at the municipality as part of extensive efforts to strengthen the international status of Jerusalem and to bring economic and business power to the city."
