Lawyer from the Sharon region suspected of forging dozens of documents for drivers whose licenses were revoked
An investigation by the Central District's Fraud and Cyber Unit has led to the arrest of a 60-year-old lawyer from Tira. The suspect allegedly forged documents to falsely lead courts, police, and the Licensing Office to believe that disqualified drivers had surrendered their licenses, while they continued to drive.
Central District police officers arrested a 60-year-old lawyer from Tira on Tuesday morning. The suspect, who represents clients in traffic law cases, is accused of running a systematic scheme to forge documents for dozens of drivers whose licenses had been revoked.
The arrest followed a covert investigation conducted over the past few weeks by the Central District’s Fraud and Cyber Crime Unit, in cooperation with investigators from the district's Traffic Division.
According to the investigation, the lawyer forged numerous documents to create a false impression before the courts, the police, and the Licensing Office. This deception was intended to show that drivers had deposited their licenses and served their court-ordered disqualification periods, while in reality, these individuals continued to drive on the roads throughout the entire duration of their suspension.
Following the transition to the overt phase of the investigation this morning, police raided the suspect's home in Tira and took him into custody. Simultaneous searches were conducted at the lawyer's home and office to collect evidence. Investigators intend to bring him to court later today to request an extension of his detention.
