Indian Farmer Catches Crocodile in Field and Carries It to Police Station
A farmer in the Indian state of Bihar captured a 1.5-meter-long crocodile in a rice field and, finding the local forest department office empty, carried the reptile on his shoulders to a police station.
An unusual video from the Indian state of Bihar has gone viral: a local farmer was seen carrying a crocodile about 1.5 meters long on his shoulders after catching it in a rice field.
The incident began when the farmer, Amit Kumar, encountered the crocodile in the Supaul district. According to local media reports, including the news channel Aaj Tak, he enlisted the help of residents from a nearby village, and together they managed to capture the reptile, restrain it, and tie its mouth shut.
At first, the group tried to hand the crocodile over to the local forest department staff, but upon arriving at their offices, they discovered the place was empty. Consequently, Kumar hoisted the crocodile onto his shoulders and carried it to the police station in the town of Bhimnagar.
The police officers, surprised by the unusual sight, contacted the forest department inspectors, who sent a team to the station and collected the crocodile. Ravi Ranjan, a senior forest officer, told the India Today network that the reptile was completely healthy. After a brief examination, it was safely released back into the Kosi River.
The forest department explained that similar cases are becoming more frequent during the monsoon season, when rising water levels in rivers cause wild animals to migrate from their natural habitats to agricultural fields and populated areas.
"I urge the public not to approach wild animals or attempt to capture them independently. In such cases, professionals should be called immediately so that they can handle the animals and relocate them safely," Ranjan stated.
