Ukrainian Prosecutor General Files Anti-Corruption Charges Before Resigning
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko filed charges against anti-corruption chief Semen Kryvonos before stepping down, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for his immediate dismissal.
Political drama unfolded in Ukraine as Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko filed charges against anti-corruption officials before stepping down from his post. Kravchenko confirmed charges against Semen Kryvonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), in a speech delivered before leaving the country.
"There is only one way for this Prosecutor General: dismissal from office. That is what I told him," President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X, adding that he is asking parliament members to support the dismissal without delay.
Kravchenko stated that he suspects Kryvonos of forging official documents to obtain a particularly large illegal gain. The outgoing prosecutor also claimed to have approved indictments against an individual close to Oleksandr Klymenko, head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), without naming him.
The announcement followed Kravchenko's denial of any connection to a criminal organization operating protection services for fraudulent call centers laundering millions of hryvnias, an operation allegedly involving a senior official from the Prosecutor General's Office. The scheme was exposed by NABU and SAPO on September 4.
