Muslim Nations Welcome UK Ban on West Bank Settlement Goods
Eight Muslim-majority nations welcomed Britain's ban on West Bank settlement goods and called for broader international measures to support the two-state solution.
Foreign ministers from Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, and Indonesia welcomed the British government's decision to ban the import of goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and impose restrictions on related services.
In a joint statement issued by the eight nations, the ministers welcomed the UK's move regarding the occupied Palestinian territory and expressed hope that it would encourage the international community to take similar steps in accordance with international law. The statement also called for holding settlement organizations and individuals involved in settlement activities accountable.
At the same time, the foreign ministers welcomed a joint statement by Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK regarding the two-state solution. Western and European nations stated their intention to impose national restrictions or support European measures on trade with settlements.
The eight Muslim-majority nations emphasized that the only viable path to a just and comprehensive peace is the implementation of the two-state solution, calling for an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
