IDF removes video offering advice to Haredi deserters on how to leave the country
The IDF removed an AI-generated video from its official Instagram page that advised Haredi deserters on how to avoid arrest at the airport. The military stated the content was uploaded against official guidelines and has launched an investigation.
On one of the official IDF Instagram pages, a video was published on Wednesday using artificial intelligence in which a Haredi character in uniform advised Haredi deserters on how to avoid arrest at the airport while traveling abroad. The video was removed shortly after its publication.
In the clip, the character suggested that Haredim arrive at a recruitment office with their summons, provide their personal details, and then legally travel abroad without being detained by authorities at Ben Gurion Airport. It should be noted that this method is already known within the Haredi community, and many use it to travel abroad without any intention of enlisting.
Following public criticism, the IDF removed the video after a few hours. The IDF stated:
"The video uploaded on the Haredi branch platform has been removed. It does not reflect the IDF's activity regarding status regulation, the purpose of which is recruitment and meaningful service only. The video was uploaded contrary to the instructions of the IDF Spokesperson's Unit regarding content publication during the election period. The incident will be investigated."
Notably, dozens of Breslov Hasidim have been arrested in recent years ahead of Rosh Hashanah while attempting to board flights to Europe with the intention of continuing to Uman, Ukraine. Rabbis from the Breslov movement have previously urged followers not to risk arrest to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman and to remain in the country, emphasizing that one should not initiate enlistment procedures solely to secure travel opportunities.
