Trump warns: "Iran is executing protesters on an unprecedented scale"
US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Iran, accusing the leadership of mass executions of protesters. He described the situation as a humanitarian crisis and threatened severe economic measures.
Following the rise in executions in Iran, US President Donald Trump sent another threat today (Tuesday) on his social network Truth Social, in which he attacked the "failed Islamic Republic." In the post, the American president wrote that "Iran is executing protesters on an unprecedented scale, even when they are not protesting."
"This is a humanitarian crisis of massive proportions - that must stop," President Trump declared.
In addition, he addressed the situation of the Iranian military and said that while it is executing protesters, "Iran is failing to pay large parts of its army."
On Thursday, Iran executed Qasem Hosseini, a foreign worker who they claimed "participated in events that led to the killing of an Iranian security forces member" during the protests that began in December 2025, despite Trump's statement in January that Iran had "cancelled the executions." Furthermore, the Iranian legal news agency "Mizan" reported that a week ago, Amirhossein Safari and Abolfazl Safahi were executed, two young men who Iran claimed clashed with security forces personnel during a demonstration.
Yesterday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the US is expanding economic sanctions on Iran. In a statement at the White House, he said that President Donald Trump spoke by phone with leaders from a number of countries and demanded that they stop business ties with Iran, or they would be removed from the dollar system:
"No one is above American sanctions - not even China. There is no set timetable, but do not test us. The clock is ticking."
Trump himself said earlier that Iran is "collapsing completely." The executions continue against the backdrop of deteriorating negotiation efforts with the US. On Thursday, Trump announced the imposition of economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation against Iran and its proxies, in what he called an "economic D-Day."
On his social network Truth Social, he wrote: "Since Iran has failed to reach a deal, I am announcing the largest economic operation ever conducted against any country. This will be economic warfare and international isolation on an unprecedented scale."
Trump further stated: "Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any kind of lifeline to Iran will itself face severe economic consequences. Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, shell companies - all of these must stop now. You know who you are."
