The president made the announcement during an AI summit with global tech leaders, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
Trump stated, "We are signing a document today aimed at changing the name of artificial intelligence. It is not artificial, we all agree on that, and we will call it 'super intelligence'—that will be the official name."
When asked if he would establish a regulatory mechanism for the field, the president said, "I am considering establishing a 10-person committee to oversee the artificial intelligence sector. I believe that artificial intelligence models will be used for positive purposes because AI companies understand they must exercise self-regulation."
Despite Trump's declaration, it remains unclear how this will be implemented in practice. The term "artificial intelligence" was coined by computer science pioneer Alan Turing in the 1950s and cannot be changed overnight by presidential decree, even as the field reaches new milestones and integrates into daily life.
