Trump won a golf tournament and mocked his rivals: "They have no talent!"
The President boasted last night of his victory in two adult categories at a tournament at his golf course in New Jersey, and posted footage of the "winning shot" – while mocking his rivals: "Unlike the other participants, I have very little time to practice." In the background: allegations of cheating on his part.
Between discussions on Iran with his senior advisors and a host of other important decisions he is required to make as US President, Donald Trump, known as a great golf enthusiast, participated yesterday (Sunday) in a tournament at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey. In the tournament, which took place hours after the President announced the cancellation of an attack he claimed was planned against Iran, the 80-year-old President won the club's men's championship in the "Super Senior" category, intended for men aged 65 and over, as well as the club championship for adults aged 50 and over.
Trump announced the victory last night in a post published on his social network Truth Social, to which he attached a video of what he described as his "winning shot":
"I won with a score of 70 strokes, and I am especially proud of it, because unlike the other participants, I have very little time to practice, as I am busy with many other things. It's called t-a-l-e-n-t, and I have it, and they don't!"
This is reportedly the 40th club championship that Trump has won on a course he owns, and he boasted of a similar victory in both categories in 2023 as well, when he wrote in a post on Truth Social: "For some reason, I am just a good golfer/athlete – I have won many club championships, and it is always a great honor!".
On "Fox News," the channel favored by Trump which takes a sympathetic line, an opinion column was published praising the President for last night's victory, and the author Alejandro Avila described it as evidence of the President's physical fitness and his ability to continue leading the nation in the face of his rivals' claims that old age is beginning to take its toll on him:
"The blue-check media have been questioning Trump's physical fitness for months, in ways they never did for Joe Biden, and insisted he was incapable of completing 18 holes. Those same critics who swore he was physically incapable of playing are about to lose their minds over these results."
In the background, it should be noted, Trump's critics have been making claims for years that he tends to cheat on his golf courses. These claims gained significant traction following a viral video distributed last July on the X network, allegedly from a golf game at a course owned by the President in Scotland, in which it was claimed that his caddy was seen throwing a ball onto the grass while Trump was driving behind him in his golf cart.
American sports writer Rick Reilly published a book back in 2019 about the allegations of alleged cheating by Trump in golf games, titled "Commander in Cheat" (a play on words with the title Commander in Chief reserved for the American President, which means the supreme commander of the army):
"At Winged Foot, where Trump is a club member, the caddies became so accustomed to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway that they invented a nickname for him: Pele," wrote Reilly in the book, referring to the Brazilian soccer star.
