Infrastructure works: train lines to the north to be suspended over the weekend
Train passengers from Beit She'an, Haifa, and Nahariya will face extensive disruptions from tomorrow morning until Sunday morning, with 12 stations closed. Israel Railways stated that the works are scheduled during a period of lower demand and urged the public to check updated timetables. Additionally, further disruptions are expected in the coming weeks on the line between Modi'in and Ben Gurion Airport.
Train passengers in the north will face extensive traffic disruptions and service impacts this coming weekend due to infrastructure and safety works carried out by Israel Railways in the Zevulun area. The changes will begin tomorrow morning (Thursday) and conclude on Sunday, August 23, at 04:00 AM, when train traffic is expected to return to its regular schedule.
As part of the infrastructure works, the Modi'in Central – Nahariya line (including night trains) and the Be'er Sheva Central – Karmiel/Nahariya line will be shortened, terminating at Haifa Center HaShmona station. Simultaneously, the Haifa Hof HaCarmel – Karmiel line and the Atlit – Beit She'an line will be completely canceled throughout the weekend.
As a result, 12 passenger stations in the north will be temporarily closed: Nahariya, Akko, Ahihud, Karmiel, Kiryat Motzkin, Kiryat Haim, Hutzot HaMifratz, Merkazit HaMifratz, Yokneam-Kfar Yehoshua, Migdal HaEmek-Kfar Baruch, Afula, and Beit She'an. Israel Railways will operate a free shuttle system, and regular bus lines in the area will be reinforced.
Additional disruptions are expected in the central and Shfela regions in the coming weeks due to the final stages of the "Railway 431" project. As part of connecting the new track to the national network, train traffic will be temporarily halted on the section between Modi'in and Ben Gurion Airport. These shutdowns will occur over the weekends of late August and early September (August 27–29 and September 3–5), starting from 22:00 on Thursdays, and continuing through Fridays and Saturday nights. The Modi'in – Jerusalem line will continue to operate as usual.
The "Railway 431" project is designed to connect towns in the center and the Shfela to Modi'in and Jerusalem via a 30-kilometer double, electrified track. The project includes the construction of new stations in Rishon LeZion (HaTa'asha) and Ramle South, alongside complex infrastructure, including a 3.5-kilometer railway bridge and tunneling under highways.
