Train Service Suspended Between Tel Aviv and Netanya Due to Power Line Damage
Train traffic between Tel Aviv Savidor Center and Netanya was halted on Sunday morning. A power cable damaged the overhead electrical infrastructure during utility works near Shefayim.
Sunday morning, one of the busiest times for public transportation, opened with significant disruptions to train services in the central region. Train traffic has been completely suspended between Tel Aviv Savidor Center and Netanya.
The incident that led to the shutdown occurred in the Shefayim area during infrastructure works conducted by the Israel Electric Corporation. During the operations, a cable struck the overhead electrification system used by the trains, causing severe damage to the infrastructure. Following the impact, train movement on the critical segment between Netanya and Tel Aviv Savidor Center was temporarily rendered impossible.
The malfunction occurred at an especially problematic time, coinciding with the start of the workweek. Since this segment connects two major transit hubs, the suspension is expected to cause widespread delays and disrupt the morning commute for thousands of passengers.
Immediately after the scale of the damage to the electrification grid became clear, professional teams from Israel Railways were dispatched to the site. Technicians are currently working in the affected area to repair the power grid and enable the resumption of train services as quickly as possible.
According to the update released early Sunday morning, the suspension is temporary and is a direct result of the damage caused during the Israel Electric Corporation's works in Shefayim. Repair works are ongoing, and the resumption of service remains dependent on the completion of the infrastructure repairs.
