Tragedy in the NFL: Assistant coach's son suspected of shooting his mother

The son of Eric Bieniemy, assistant coach of the Kansas City Chiefs football team, is suspected of shooting his mother and wounding her critically, US law enforcement authorities announced on Monday.
According to a statement from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, police were called late Sunday night, local time, to a report of a shooting in the city of Ashburn. At the scene, they found Mia Bieniemy, 57, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital, and her condition stabilized by Monday.
Elijah Bieniemy, 27, the couple's son, was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the shooting. He has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting within an occupied dwelling; he remains in custody without the possibility of release on bail.
The Kansas City Chiefs stated in response to the AP news agency: "The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy's family. Out of respect for their privacy, we will not comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
