Tragedy in Cyprus: Jerusalem resident drowns while swimming with family
A 34-year-old man went missing while swimming at a beach in Limassol. After a two-hour search, he was spotted in the water by a paraglider. ZAKA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are coordinating the repatriation of his body for burial in Israel.
A 34-year-old resident of Jerusalem drowned last night (Wednesday) at a beach in Limassol, Cyprus, while swimming in the sea with his family.
According to ZAKA, the man disappeared while in the water, prompting a two-hour search by his family along the beach and in the sea. Ultimately, a paraglider flying over the area spotted him floating in the water. Local rescue teams recovered his body and were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene.
The international unit of ZAKA is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local authorities to complete the necessary procedures and repatriate his body for burial in Israel.
Chaim Weingarten, ZAKA's Deputy Chief of Operations, stated:
"This is a difficult and painful tragedy. ZAKA is in constant contact with the family and, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is working with local authorities to assist them and bring the deceased home for burial as quickly as possible."
