TLVFest Returns to Tel Aviv Cinematheque for its 21st Edition
TLVFest celebrates its 21st edition at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque from October 22 to 31, marking a new leadership era under Gili Porat with a rich international and local queer cinema program.
The TLVFest, Israel's premier international queer film festival founded by Yair Hochner, is set to celebrate its 21st edition at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque from October 22 to 31. This year marks a significant turning point as Hochner steps down after two decades of dedicated leadership, handing over the reins to a fresh team featuring artistic director Gili Porat and producer Yael Lavi.
International Cinema Highlights
The festival's rich international lineup features acclaimed masterpieces straight from the world's leading festivals. Among them is "Rose" by Markus Schleinzer, which earned Sandra Hüller the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance in Berlin, alongside "Gogo's World", winner of the Crystal Bear and the international jury's grand prize in the Generation Kplus section.
"When we built this year's program, we asked what happens to the world when viewed from a queer perspective. Alongside famous stars and major festival hits, it was important for us to discover new voices, bring back forgotten history, and create a living encounter between film, audience, and community," says artistic director Gili Porat.
Israeli Premieres and Special Screenings
The local competition showcases compelling domestic works, including Yuval Hadadi's premiere "A Man Walking Down the Street", starring Angel Bonanni and Uri Banai, and Nitzan Giladi's final feature film, "And You Shall Love", starring Yael Elkana and Michael Moshonov. Special events also feature a 30th-anniversary screening of the Wachowski sisters' classic "Bound".
