Shooting at ATV wheels and 12 arrests: Police raid in the Negev
Fighters of the Southern National Guard and Southern District police officers tightened enforcement in Rahat and its surroundings as part of Operation 'Iron Net'. During the activity, weapons and explosives were located, 12 illegal residents were arrested, and two stolen ATVs from Ofakim were returned.
As part of Operation 'Iron Net' in Rahat, fighters of the Southern National Guard of the Border Police and officers of the Southern District conducted a major raid on Sunday. Law enforcement officials discovered ammunition, arrested 12 illegal residents, recovered two stolen ATVs, and apprehended a suspect in the act.
The operation, announced by the Police Commissioner, continues the Israel Police's focused efforts to combat crime and strengthen governance in the city of Rahat.
During the proactive operation, fighters identified an abandoned ATV on the outskirts of the village of Tarabin with its engine still warm. An inspection revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from the city of Ofakim. The owner was located, and the vehicle was returned to him. Later, in an open area near Tarabin, weapons were found, including 5.56 caliber ammunition and two explosive devices.
Further into the operation, on Highway 310, officers noticed an ATV rider driving recklessly and without a helmet. After he failed to obey orders to stop, a single shot was fired at the wheels of the ATV. The suspect, a 34-year-old resident of Lakiya, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a chase and transferred for further investigation. Additionally, during patrols in Rahat, a suspect was arrested after throwing a stone at the officers.
All findings have been transferred for further investigative and forensic handling, with the goal of identifying additional suspects and bringing them to justice.
