Shooting and chase in Petah Tikva: Car thieves rammed a patrol car and civilian vehicles
Detectives from the Petah Tikva station intercepted a car theft, leading to a high-speed chase. The suspects rammed a police vehicle and civilian cars before officers fired at their tires. Two suspects were arrested.
A chase involving a cell of car thieves took place on Thursday on the streets of Petah Tikva, ending with the arrest of two residents of Kafr Qasim. The suspects attempted to escape in a stolen vehicle, ramming a police patrol car and several civilian vehicles along the way. At a certain point, officers fired shots at the vehicle's tires to halt their escape.
The incident began during proactive operations by detectives from the Petah Tikva station targeting a cell suspected of vehicle theft. The detectives identified the suspects as they were attempting to flee the scene in the stolen vehicle and approached to conduct an arrest.
The attempt to detain them quickly escalated into a pursuit. The suspects continued driving, ramming a police vehicle and civilian cars in an effort to break through. Detectives pursued them, and during the escape attempt, shots were fired at the vehicle's tires. No police officers were injured.
The chase continued until forces managed to bring the two suspects to a stop. As part of the operation, two vehicles were seized, and the suspects were transferred to the Petah Tikva station for questioning.
Central District Commander, Nitzav Amir Cohen, stated:
"I support the police officers who strove for contact; we will continue to fight criminal terror and ensure the safety and security of the public."
The investigation is currently ongoing, as authorities work to clarify the role of the two individuals within the cell and the circumstances of the incident. Investigative actions surrounding the case are continuing.
