Shooting at a Mosque in Shefa-Amr: Indictment Against Two Suspects
Last month, a suspect opened fire inside a mosque in Shefa-Amr while brandishing a sword and a pistol before fleeing. Following a manhunt, YAMAM forces arrested the suspect, and a second individual was later apprehended for concealing the weapon.
Following an investigation by Northern District police, the Haifa District Attorney's Office is set to file an indictment in the coming days against two residents of Shefa-Amr on weapons-related charges, following a shooting incident inside a local mosque and the subsequent concealment of the firearm.
At the beginning of last month, authorities received reports of a shooting inside a mosque in Shefa-Amr, where a suspect brandishing both a sword and a pistol opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Immediately upon receiving the report, significant forces from the Northern District police and Border Police (Magav) launched an extensive search operation. Following a manhunt that lasted several hours and utilized intelligence and advanced technological tools, YAMAM special forces successfully apprehended the suspect in an open area near the community of Ibtin.
As the investigation progressed, detectives from the Galilee Central Unit (YAMAR) identified a second suspect who had hidden the pistol used in the shooting. Surveillance and investigation teams from the Galilee YAMAR located the weapon and successfully linked the shooter's movements to the actions of the accomplice who had transported and concealed the firearm.
"The detention of the two suspects, residents of Shefa-Amr aged 32 and 47, was extended periodically. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Adv. Daniel Kopolev of the Haifa District Attorney's Office filed a prosecutor's statement in preparation for the formal indictment," police stated.
