Newborn Kitten Survives 122-Kilometer Journey Inside Hot SUV Engine in Texas
A newborn kitten in Texas survived a grueling 122-kilometer journey trapped inside a hot SUV engine bay before being rescued by hospital workers and animal control in Kerrville.
A heartwarming drama with a happy ending unfolded in Texas when a newborn kitten was successfully rescued after surviving a nerve-wracking 122-kilometer (76-mile) journey trapped inside the scorching engine bay of an SUV. The tiny kitten required immense luck and extraordinary resilience to make it out alive.
The unbelievable story began when an employee at Peterson Health hospital in Kerrville heard faint meows coming from a colleague's vehicle. The colleague had just completed a long drive of over an hour from the city of Rocksprings.
"I heard this poor baby crying as I was leaving my shift," recalled employee Connie Martinez in an interview with local TV station KENS 5. "I told another staff member, and she was amazing—she jumped into action immediately."
To rescue the tiny stowaway, the team on-site had to disassemble the front grille of the SUV. Animal Control Officer James Lee was called to the scene to oversee the delicate operation and ensure the kitten was extracted unharmed.
Following the successful rescue, the soft kitten was transferred to the dedicated care of the rescue organization Kerrville Pets Alive!. The organization reported that the kitten is in good condition, eating well, and safe. "After an unexpected road trip, this little guy is warm, snuggled, and has a full belly," the organization shared.
Since the kitten is still nursing, he was placed with a nursing mother cat to provide him with the necessary nutrition for his development. While it remains unclear how he managed to get into the engine compartment, the rescue story has garnered widespread attention on social media. The rescue organization noted a record demand for his adoption, though they emphasized that the current focus is entirely on his health and rehabilitation.
