Tesla to Unveil Long-Awaited Roadster Sports Car on October 1

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the electric vehicle manufacturer will unveil its Roadster sports car on October 1. This comes nearly a decade after the next-generation version was first introduced.

Musk published the date in a post on the X platform, which he also owns. The announcement confirms a report by The Information from last month. According to that report, the unveiling event may also include a demonstration of a limited-edition version equipped with cold gas thrusters developed in cooperation with SpaceX, with the event taking place at the SpaceX test facility in Texas.

Tesla first showcased the next-generation Roadster back in 2017, initially claiming that deliveries would begin in 2020, but the project suffered repeated delays. According to reports, the Roadster program evolved from a conventional high-performance electric car into an entirely new vehicle made of carbon fiber, after Tesla abandoned an alternative approach based on Model S Plaid components.

Simultaneously with the planned Roadster unveiling, Tesla last week began offering autonomous ride-hailing services in Austin using the Cybercab, a two-seater vehicle featuring neither a steering wheel nor pedals. The service is currently offered on a partial basis, but Musk argued that the vehicle is essential to plans making Tesla a leading force in the autonomous vehicle market.
