Storm over separate beach in Tel Aviv: Municipality issues clarification
Following a wave of rumors and protests, the municipality clarified that Nordau Beach will be opened to the general public and the separation wall removed. The separate bathing complex will be relocated to the city's northern edge.
The storm over the separate beach in Tel Aviv: In recent days, social media has been in an uproar following persistent rumors about an intention to establish a new separate beach at HaTzuk Beach, which led to resident organizing, the launching of petitions, and even threats of protests. HaTzuk Beach, it will be recalled, made headlines just about two months ago when it was suddenly closed by the police following the discovery of numerous munitions at the waterline.
Today, Monday, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality decided to put an end to the rumors and issued an official statement: "We wanted to set things straight because there is quite a bit of misinformation. The bottom line: The municipality is not establishing a new separate beach at HaTzuk Beach."
The municipality clarified that as part of the plan, the long-standing separate beach at Nordau Beach (near Metzitzim Beach) will be abolished and opened to the general public, while the separation wall will be removed to create continuity on the promenade in the city center. Instead, the separate bathing complex will move to a new location on an unregulated strip at the northern edge of the city, adjacent to the separate beach currently operating in Herzliya.
"This is not an additional separate beach; there will remain only one separate beach in the city as required by law," the municipality emphasized. "HaTzuk Beach will remain open to the general public. Anyone saying otherwise is mistaken and misleading."
