Father Refuses to Bail Son Out of Jail After Tel Aviv Restaurant Break-In
A Tel Aviv court indictment reveals a burglar was returned to custody after his father refused to supervise his house arrest, declaring his addict son belongs in prison.

A Tel Aviv resident was charged with breaking into a well-known restaurant in the city, stealing cash, tablets, and expensive alcohol. However, a surprising twist kept him behind bars when his own father refused to act as his house arrest supervisor.
The Break-In at Baba Yaga
The Tel Aviv Police prosecution unit filed an indictment at the local Magistrates Court against 32-year-old Abdel Kader Buga, charging him with business break-in and theft. According to the indictment, Buga scaled the fence of the "Baba Yaga" restaurant on HaYarkon Street in Tel Aviv, stealing property with a total value of 5,900 shekels.
The incident occurred around 01:50 AM, roughly two weeks ago. The defendant entered the outdoor seating area, opened the cash register, and took 500 shekels in cash alongside a 2,000-shekel tablet. He then smashed or forced his way through a closed window into the main building, where he searched cabinets and used a tool resembling pliers to open alcoholic beverages.
Inside, Buga stole a second tablet worth 2,000 shekels and three bottles of liquor valued at 1,400 shekels before fleeing the scene. The break-in was discovered the following morning by staff members who found the cash register open, a window ajar, and missing inventory.
Evidence and Criminal Record
The prosecution presented significant evidence linking the defendant to the crime, including security camera footage showing him rummaging through property and handling items. Crucially, police discovered Buga's fingerprint on one of the alcohol bottles he moved during the burglary, and two police officers identified him in the videos.
During questioning, Buga admitted to using drugs but denied the charges, later invoking his right to silence. Prosecutors noted that he has four prior convictions between 2014 and 2023 for property offenses and car theft, and argued that his homelessness and drug use present a severe flight risk and ongoing danger.
Father Refuses Bail
Initially, the court ordered Buga's release to house arrest at his father's home in Tel Aviv under specific financial guarantees. However, the father later appeared at a police station and explicitly refused to sign the surety bond.
"He deserves to rot in prison, he is a drug addict," the father reportedly told police officers, according to prosecution documents.
Due to the father's refusal, the defendant failed to meet the release conditions and remains in custody. The prosecution has asked the court to keep him locked up until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
