The Future of Holiday Bridges
The current Sukkot break provides students and teachers with two consecutive weeks of rest thanks to the bridge created between Yom Kippur and the festival. The move was born out of an agreement signed in 2022, under which teachers work on three Isru Chag days in exchange for these vacation days. The validity of the agreement is set to expire soon, and many educators are wondering whether the benefit will be preserved for the next academic year.
This feels like an evolution toward cutting more vacation days, said one teacher. It smells like the next agreement won't have Isru Chag or the bridge because parents are dissatisfied again.
Upcoming Wage Negotiations
Discussions on the new wage agreement for elementary and middle school teachers are expected to open only after the elections, potentially facing new ministers of finance and education.
