Sulam Resident Arrested After M4 Assault Rifle Found in His Home
A 49-year-old Sulam resident with an electronic tag was arrested after an M4 rifle was found in his home. Police seized hundreds of illegal weapons in the north this year.
A 49-year-old resident of the village of Sulam, recently released from prison for a 2014 fatal stabbing and currently wearing an electronic tracking tag, was re-arrested after an M4 assault rifle was discovered in his home, Israel Police announced.
On September 25, Northern District police officers raided the suspect's home in the village near Afula following intelligence regarding weapons possession at the location. During the search, officers located a bag containing the firearm, along with fully loaded magazines and additional evidence.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken in for questioning. Following his interrogation, he was brought before the Magistrates Court in Nof HaGalil-Nazaret, which extended his remand until September 30. The investigation is ongoing.
This weapons seizure adds to a lengthy series of illegal arms incidents in the Northern District. According to police data published in late August, Northern District police and Border Police fighters have seized over 610 lethal weapons since the beginning of the year. Just days earlier, an M16 rifle was recovered at a shooting scene in Nazareth after undercover detectives spotted an armed suspect opening fire at a building.
