Last year, testimonies from nine women regarding inappropriate sexual behavior on his part were published, and it now turns out these claims have already affected his career: according to a new report, as early as 2025, it was decided to forgo casting the actor in the political thriller 'Assassination'.
According to a report by Page Six, last year Leto was in advanced negotiations to join director Barry Levinson's film, and it seemed that the casting was almost finalized. Sources close to the production said that the actor was very interested in the role and held ongoing conversations with Levinson, but behind the scenes, senior production figures and the director were aware of the allegations against him and discussed them even before negotiations began. One source claimed that the multitude of accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior made his casting impossible.
Another source familiar with the details claimed that the disappointing performance of the science fiction film 'Tron: Ares' might have also contributed to the decision not to move forward with Leto, but added: "It could be that this was just an excuse to remove him from the project after the publication of the investigation in 2025, in which nine women accused the actor of inappropriate sexual behavior."
'Assassination', starring Bryan Cranston and Brendan Fraser, is based on the true story of journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, who died under mysterious circumstances while investigating the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy. The film's production has already been delayed in the past following a lawsuit filed by co-writer and producer Nicholas Salozi, but it is still expected to go ahead. At this stage, it has not been announced who will replace Leto, and the film still has no release date.
Earlier this week, the documentary 'Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret' aired on the BBC, in which ten women raised allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior by Leto. According to the film, the incidents occurred between 2002 and 2016, when the women were aged 16 to 18 and Leto was in his 30s and 40s. Alongside those testimonies, additional claims have been published in the last year by women and people who worked with Leto as part of his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Leto has rejected the allegations against him over the years. As early as 2005, the New York Post reported on claims that the actor aggressively pursues young models, but he denied them. In recent years, following publications in Air Mail and the BBC, he has reiterated that they have no basis.
