Suspicion: Released from prison — and less than a week later murdered a man in Jerusalem
A 31-year-old resident of Eilat is suspected of murder in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, just six days after his release from prison.
A resident of Eilat is suspected of murder in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem last month. The suspect, 31, was released six days before the murder from a long prison sentence for another violent incident.
Last month, police forces were called to an apartment in the Katamon neighborhood following a report of a person found without signs of life with signs of violence on his body. Officers cordoned off the scene and began a preliminary investigation together with district forensic experts, quickly identifying the incident as a criminal act.
Following the findings, the Jerusalem District Commander, Nitzav Avshalom Peled, held a special situation assessment and assigned the investigation to the Central Unit (Yamar) of the Jerusalem District.
Yamar investigators arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Today, a prosecutor's statement was filed by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office at the Magistrate's Court, and the prosecution is expected to file an indictment in the coming days.
Head of the investigation team at Yamar Jerusalem, Sergeant Major Yitzhak Dahan, stated:

From the moment we took responsibility for the investigation, we acted quickly with all tools at our disposal to collect evidence, reach the truth, and arrest the suspect. Thanks to the intensive and professional work of the unit's investigators, we have formed a solid evidentiary basis.»
