Relief for Drivers: Begin Highway in Jerusalem Opened Ahead of Schedule
Good news for motorists: the southbound Begin Highway opened to traffic this morning four hours ahead of schedule following the installation of new bicycle bridges.
Begin Highway in the southbound direction, one of Jerusalem's central and most congested traffic arteries, which was closed last Thursday for complex infrastructure work, was reopened to vehicle traffic at 06:00 a.m. This represents a significant advancement of approximately four hours ahead of the original schedule, which helped to dramatically ease morning traffic.
The road was closed for an engineering operation to install steel bridges intended for bicycles. This operation is part of the public transport lane (NATATZ) project on section 7 of Begin Boulevard. The complex project is being promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Moriah company, and the Transportation for Jerusalem company.
As part of the works, the road is being widened, a dedicated public transport lane is being paved, and advanced transport infrastructure is being developed. The goal is to significantly improve traffic flow, increase capacity on the axis, promote public transport, and upgrade safety for all road users.
The executing companies emphasize that the project works will continue in the coming weeks. Additional lifting dates have been set in advance, with the goal of completing the opening of the section in the northbound direction by the holiday period. The Ministry of Transport and the Jerusalem Municipality thanked the public for their patience and cooperation, which allowed the operation to be completed safely, quickly, and efficiently.
