One person was killed and several others were injured overnight Tuesday in a roller coaster incident at the Six Flags amusement park near Atlanta, Georgia, in the USA.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the passengers was thrown from the car and fell to their death. Local police did not detail the cause of the fatality and injuries, announcing that detectives would investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

Authorities and the park did not specify which ride was involved, but local television broadcast images of passengers being lowered in harnesses from the "Goliath" roller coaster, which became stuck midway up the ascent. According to the park's website, the ride has been operating since 2006, towers 61 meters high, and reaches a speed of 113 km/h.

Eyewitnesses described the moments of the fall. "Suddenly I saw someone fly out, literally fly into the trees," said a visitor standing in line for a nearby ride. A passenger on the train recounted that the victim was captured in the souvenir photos taken during the ride. "He fell and hit the cart three times," he said.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident involving one of our park visitors today," the park said in a statement.

According to a law firm specializing in amusement park accidents, this is at least the seventh death at the park. One of them occurred in 2006 on Goliath itself, when a man reportedly suffered a heart attack during the ride.

Broader Safety Context

Last month, the Six Flags park in southern California announced it would shut down its famous X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits alleging the ride caused severe brain injuries.

The company recently reached a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a 22-year-old man who died in 2002 after riding a coaster, and last week three additional lawsuits alleging brain injuries were filed against it.

Last year, a 32-year-old man died after riding a high-speed roller coaster at the Universal amusement park in Florida. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled an accident.
