Life sometimes presents us with unimaginable dilemmas. What does a young teenager do when he simultaneously faces a rare disease attacking his body, a bedridden mother requiring nursing care, and a shocking medical diagnosis of a brain tumor?
The story of Shlomo is a testament to the limits of human endurance. Above all, it is a story about a stubborn choice for life, the immense power of a supportive family, and how true love and faith can transform absolute darkness into a great light.
Growing Up Amid Hardship
From early childhood, Shlomo battled a rare limb condition known as fibromatosis, which required a long series of complex surgeries and medical procedures. The heavy family burden worsened when his mother fell ill with cancer and became bedridden, forcing his father to shoulder the double responsibility of caring for the home and his son.
However, the hardest blow of all arrived at the age of twelve and a half. Following recurring headaches, an MRI scan revealed a malignant tumor inside his brainstem. "'Shlomo, you have cancer,' they told me... and I am a twelve-year-old child. Let me grow up, let me enjoy life. What do you mean you have cancer?" he recalled.

Despite immense fear and the harsh side effects of chemotherapy, Shlomo refused to let the illness dictate his life. In a particularly emotional moment when his hair began to fall out, his brother, father, and brother-in-law stood by him and shaved their heads as a sign of complete solidarity.
Amputation in Adolescence
Although the brain tumor stopped spreading after an exhausting period, the struggle with his leg continued relentlessly. Additional tumors and two years of endless fear before every biopsy turned his life into a journey of survival. Doctors repeatedly recommended amputating the leg to halt the deterioration, but Shlomo rejected the proposal time and again.
However, at sixteen and a third, following deep deliberation, conversations with other amputees, and a cold calculation of pros and cons, Shlomo made the hardest and bravest decision of his life. In December, he underwent the amputation surgery, which he defines as his "second birthday"—the moment when the darkness ended and a new light began.
Chasing the Soccer Dream
For Shlomo, the hardest price of the amputation was knowing he could no longer play soccer the way he used to, but life surprised him. During his rehabilitation, he discovered the national amputee soccer team.
Despite enormous physical difficulties, running on crutches, and the challenging gameplay without a prosthesis, Shlomo did not look back. He integrated into the national team, flew to international tournaments in Belgium and Scotland, and even scored exciting goals in the national uniform.
This is excitement, this is fulfillment. There is nothing more joyful than this. When you labor, you find, and you believe. There is nothing more worthwhile than this.
Shlomo proves time and again that the only true limitation is in the mind. When a person truly wants something and has passion, they will find a way to bypass any obstacle.
