Shakira Unveils Custom Temporary Stadium in Madrid for European Residency
Shakira is launching a 12-show residency in Madrid with a custom-built 50,000-seat temporary stadium designed by BIG, running across four weekends this autumn.
Shakira is set to kick off a massive series of 12 concerts in Madrid this coming Friday, featuring a specially constructed temporary venue capable of holding over 50,000 people per night. The Shakira Stadium was built specifically for the European residency of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.
A Temporary Mega-Arena in Madrid
The temporary stadium was erected within the Iberdrola Music complex in Villaverde, southern Madrid, a venue regularly hosting major music events like the Mad Cool Festival. While exact costs were not disclosed, organizers note a similar pop-up stadium built for Adele in Munich was estimated at around 40 million euros.

Instead of touring multiple European cities, Shakira chose a centralized residency format, packing 12 performances across four consecutive weekends from September 18 to October 11. Designed by the renowned international architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the venue prioritizes acoustics, optimal viewing angles, and visual spectacle.
Beyond the Music
Surrounding the arena, eight thematic zones have been established, dedicated to food, literature, fashion, art, and cinema, alongside dedicated family and fan areas. Organizers describe the project as a temporary city centered around the global superstar's immersive show. Once the residency concludes, the temporary structure will be dismantled, returning the Iberdrola Music grounds to its standard festival use.
