Over 76,000 Illegal Eggs with Forged Stamps Seized at Tunnels Checkpoint
Over 76,800 illegal eggs with forged Israeli stamps were seized at the Tunnels Checkpoint en route to Jerusalem and subsequently destroyed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
About 76,800 illegal eggs originating from the Palestinian Authority were seized at the Tunnels Checkpoint on their way to Jerusalem. The shipment, carried by truck, was intercepted between Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety, the eggs bore stamps of Israeli marketers and sorting stations suspected of being forged. The truck contained eight pallets holding 2,560 egg trays, intended for unlawful distribution inside the country.
The truck was confiscated, legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect, and the entire shipment was destroyed due to severe public health concerns.
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that bringing unregulated eggs from the Palestinian Authority is strictly prohibited. Without veterinary supervision and quality control, such products pose health risks as their origin, storage, and transport conditions cannot be verified.
Moshe Aharak, head of the Central Enforcement and Investigations Unit at the ministry, stated that the shipment was successfully intercepted before reaching consumers, adding that enforcement activities are intensified during the holiday season.
