Sayed Abu Farhi Responds to Controversy Following Red Card Against Austria
Israeli national team forward Sayed Abu Farhi responded to recent media reports following his red card against Austria, while his father defended him against political criticism.
Sayed Abu Farhi, the young forward of the Israeli national team who was sent off during Thursday's 3:1 defeat to Austria immediately after scoring his debut goal in his first starting appearance, published an Instagram story addressing recent reports about him.
Abu Farhi wrote: "Regarding the publications that came out, everyone knows who I am and what my character is. I will always give 100 percent of myself at every moment on the pitch for the national team, and I am always ready and proud to wear the national team's uniform and represent them. And to the dear journalists, I will not let any of you ruin my and my family's name, and I will always stand behind them. And a small request: let go of my name, both in bad times and especially in good times."
Earlier today, Mohammed Abu Farhi, Sayed's father, was interviewed by Radio Al-Nas and addressed the storm surrounding the goal celebration and the red card in the loss to Austria. "Sayed is a Palestinian Muslim Arab, he reads the Quran before every game, look at his games since he was 9 years old, he is a Muslim son of a Muslim, so who would he point a rifle at? Sayed, my son, has nothing to do with politics and he paid a price for wearing the national team shirt."
