Without food and in a state of extreme emaciation: two horses rescued from a compound in Kiryat Ata
Inspectors found the horses suffering from injuries and health problems, and in the stalls, they found contaminated water and no available food. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the owner was repeatedly required to fix the deficiencies but did not do so. The horses were transferred for rehabilitation, and the opening of a criminal investigation is being considered.
Two horses kept in conditions of severe neglect were rescued today, Sunday, from a compound in Kiryat Ata and transferred for rehabilitation to a protected facility, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security reported. The horses were found in a state of severe emaciation, suffering from injuries and health problems. Following the findings, the opening of a criminal investigation and legal proceedings against their owner are being considered on suspicion of offenses against the Animal Welfare Law.
The horses were rescued as part of a joint enforcement operation by the Ministry of Agriculture, veterinary authorities, and the police. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, several inspections were conducted at the compound in the last two months, and the owner was required to fix a series of deficiencies. After a follow-up inspection revealed that the deficiencies were not fixed and the horses continued to be kept in poor conditions, it was decided to remove them from the site.
Without food, water contaminated: "The horse did not leave the stall for a long time"
Upon the inspectors' entry into the compound, the harsh conditions were discovered. According to the ministry, a minimal amount of water was found in the stalls in dirty and contaminated containers, and there was no food available. The door of one of the stalls was found stuck and surrounded by compressed bedding, a finding that indicates the horse had not left the stall for a long time. Both horses were found in a state of severe emaciation and without proper care, suffering from injuries, complex health problems, and distress.
Due to their condition, it was decided to evacuate the horses urgently to a protected facility of the Ministry of Agriculture, where they are receiving veterinary care, appropriate nutrition, and undergoing a rehabilitation process. Moshe Aharak, director of the Central Unit for Enforcement and Investigations at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated:
"Keeping animals in appalling conditions while ignoring the instructions of the law and the warnings of professional bodies is a serious offense that we view with great severity."
According to him, the ministry's inspectors will continue to act to prevent suffering to animals, rescue them from centers of neglect, and bring those responsible to justice.
