Romy Abergel celebrates court victory: 'I have been found innocent'
After a four-month legal saga, internet star Romy Abergel has been found innocent. Her passport has been returned to her, and she is no longer restricted in her movements.
The Romy Abergel affair has reached a happy conclusion: the 24-year-old transgender internet star left Israel at the beginning of 2023 and moved to Thailand, where she resides to this day. Last April, she was arrested on suspicion of working illegally without an appropriate visa, but after a lengthy investigation, it emerged that Abergel had simply fallen victim to a tourist scam.
About two weeks ago, a source familiar with the details stated that the investigation was ongoing and that Romy's passport had been seized by the police, meaning she could not leave the country: "She is in limbo," the source said.
However, today (Thursday) she happily revealed that the affair had come to an end and that her passport had been returned to her after she was found innocent in court.
"To all the detractors, my dear friends: my passport is with me, — she announced with excitement in a story on her Instagram page. — There is no more court. I am innocent."
She attached a video to the post, showing herself holding the passport in her hands.
As recalled, after the affair was exposed, Romy Abergel stated:
"It is important to me that people know that one should not trust everyone, even if they seem the nicest, and not to believe every promise one receives. To my great regret, I trusted Israelis I should not have trusted and I fell, like many others, victim to a sad situation. Always do all the checks that are necessary."
