Media expert returns to police: Eli Levi set to lead spokesperson division

The Israel Police is moving to bring back its former spokesperson, currently a prominent media panelist, into its ranks.

According to a report by Liran Tamari from ynet, advanced negotiations are currently underway for the return of journalist and former police spokesperson Eli Levi to the organization. As part of this transition, Levi is expected to be appointed as the head of the police spokesperson division.

Sources indicate that the parties are at an advanced stage of talks, and the police are working to finalize the appointment, aiming to restore Levi to a senior role within the organization's public relations and media framework.

Parallel to this appointment, a change is expected in the role of the current head of the spokesperson division, Brigadier General Lior Abudram. According to reports, Abudram is expected to conclude his tenure as division head and move to another senior position within the police.

Abudram's name recently made headlines following his interrogation as part of the case involving associates of the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir. With the upcoming changes at the top of the spokesperson system, it appears he will continue his service in a different capacity.

If finalized, this will mark Eli Levi's return to the Israel Police after years of working in the media sector.

Levi, 50, brings extensive professional experience from a range of major media outlets, including Channel 13, Channel 10, Maariv, and the Schocken network. During his previous tenure as police spokesperson, he managed media strategy for some of the biggest crises in the history of the Israel Police, led large-scale public relations operations such as the two visits of former US President Joe Biden to Israel, and was a key partner in the activities of the national public diplomacy headquarters.
