IDF Reservists Frustrated Over 'Fighter' Card Restrictions at Base Stores
IDF reservists in northern Israel expressed frustration online after base stores refused to accept their state-issued 'Fighter' benefit cards due to strict Ministry of Defense retail category regulations.

A satirical sign posted at a military base store in northern Israel has highlighted ongoing frustration among IDF reservists regarding the usage limitations of their "Fighter" benefit cards. The sign, photographed and shared on social media, reads: "Dear reservists, we don't accept Fighter at the PX, don't ask us why, we don't know either."
The post quickly drew criticism from soldiers who questioned the logic of issuing state-backed financial perks for reservists that cannot be redeemed at base convenience stores. The "Fighter" card is a prepaid digital voucher distributed by the IDF, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Finance, loaded with thousands of shekels based on service duration and unit classification.
Restrictions and Bureaucracy
While the digital wallet card functions like standard credit at designated leisure and restaurant venues, reservists have frequently complained about limited acceptance networks. The core issue stems from merchant classification rules set by financial authorities and the Ministry of Defense.
"Dear reservists, we don't accept Fighter at the PX, don't ask us why, we don't know either."
Official Responses
Representatives for "Kuvoret", the official chain of military convenience stores operated by the Association for the Wellbeing of Soldiers, explained that system limitations prevent them from processing the payments.
"The card is restricted to restaurants and recreational attractions, and unfortunately cannot be used for retail purchases, per Ministry of Defense guidelines," the chain stated. The Ministry of Defense reiterated that the budget is strictly intended for welfare and leisure activities rather than general supermarket purchases, classifying the base stores under standard grocery retail codes.
