This is something you don't see every day on football pitches. During a Peru Cup match between Sport Huayucachi and Magdalena Sedeck, a highly unusual incident occurred that quickly went viral across the web. It all started in the 82nd minute of the match held in the Ancash region, north of the capital, Lima. The referee, Luis Alegre, was about to send off one of the coaching staff members of Magdalena Sedeck with a red card. The atmosphere on the pitch was already tense and accompanied by heated protests, but the situation escalated quickly when another staff member from the bench decided to storm onto the pitch armed with a plastic bottle and ran directly toward the referee to attack him. Referee Alegre did not lose his composure and reacted suddenly. While holding the red card aloft in his hand, he sent his right leg forward and landed a powerful karate kick directly to the chin of the attacking coach. The referee's extreme reaction caused an immediate flare-up. Angry players surrounded the referee and his assistants, and the ensuing chaos on the pitch required the intervention of police forces who had to enter to protect the officiating crew. Following the events, the match was immediately stopped, and at this stage, it is still unclear whether the injured coach required hospital treatment or what disciplinary actions will be taken against those involved.
