Report: A group of settlers set fire to vehicles near Nablus and harassed residents
According to Palestinian reports, settlers terrorized the village of Jalud, going between houses and knocking on doors; police have opened an investigation. This follows a series of incidents between the warring parties in the West Bank, leading the IDF to reinforce troops to prevent friction.
A group of settlers attacked towns and villages south of Nablus, set fire to three vehicles, targeted Palestinian homes between the villages of Jalud and Talfit, and damaged the power grid in the town of Madama, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. Police have reportedly opened an investigation into the incident.
This comes against the backdrop of a series of recent incidents between the warring parties in the West Bank, leading the IDF to reinforce troops to prevent friction on the ground.
Just yesterday, police filed a prosecutor's statement against a resident of the southern Hebron Hills who was documented two months ago attacking an elderly woman and a toddler in the village of Yatta, and subsequently abusing a dog.
In the footage, the attacker is seen passing between houses with a donkey while causing property damage. At one point, he threw an elderly woman holding her young son to the ground and brutally beat a dog with a plastic pipe.
Following the incident, an inter-agency task force was assigned to identify and locate the suspect. He was identified the following day as a 16-year-old minor from Beitar Illit living on a farm near Yatta.
As part of the investigation, testimonies were collected from local residents, the suspect's father was questioned, and the farm owner was interrogated under caution. An arrest warrant was issued, and intelligence and operational forces were deployed to locate him.
Last Wednesday, detectives from the Judea and Samaria District Central Unit located the suspect in the Sde Boker area while he was with his family. He was arrested and remanded into custody. His parents were also questioned for obstructing the investigation and were released under restrictive conditions.
The court repeatedly extended his detention to allow for the completion of the investigation. All required actions have now been concluded, and an evidentiary file has been established. Police filed a prosecutor's statement yesterday in preparation for an indictment to be filed by the Southern District Attorney's Office later this week.
