A mother whose son survived an explosion during a school trip on the Ramim Ridge has recounted the terrifying moments of uncertainty and praised the exemplary conduct of older students who stepped in to help after teachers were injured. Florence Wachtok spoke to Radio 104.5FM on Monday, describing how her husband realized from a news flash that the incident involved their son's group.

"Thank God, my son came out safe and sound physically, with just a few small scratches," Wachtok said. "But it is different in terms of what he experienced, what he went through, and the tragic news about the death of Yair Vilansky." For several long agonizing minutes, the family had no information about his condition until he managed to borrow a phone and call them.

Rescue and Evacuation Efforts

The injured students were eventually evacuated to Yiftah, where local authorities and the Home Front Command provided immediate assistance, including therapeutic dogs, food, and emotional support. Wachtok expressed deep admiration for the teenagers who took charge when teachers were wounded.

"The 10th-grade students behaved impeccably. The teachers were injured, and these older students managed the incident, applied tourniquets with their shirts, and managed to protect the younger ones."

Ongoing Trauma Support

Wachtok emphasized that while her son appears physically fine, the psychological toll will take time to process. She noted that the students returned to school for morning prayers, conversations, and emotional support, hoping such care continues for all involved in the tragic incident on the northern border.
