The Haifa Local Planning and Building Committee approved the advancement of a master plan to significantly expand the Rambam Health Care Campus, promoted by the Israel Land Authority. Under the initiative, the hospital's inpatient bed capacity is projected to increase from the current 976 to approximately 1,875 beds by the target year, alongside a major expansion of medical facilities, research institutes, and access infrastructure.

The project aims to address the growing medical needs of the region and reinforce Rambam's status as a premier medical center serving residents of Haifa and northern Israel. The expansion will enable a broader scope of clinical activity, infrastructure development for hospitalization, and advanced training facilities for medical, nursing, and paramedical staff. Additional components include clinics, laboratories, a dedicated patient and family hotel, and expanded parking areas.

To facilitate the expansion, approximately 5.7 dunams will be added to the western side of the complex, bringing its total area to roughly 101 dunams. The plan outlines increased building rights, designated structures for demolition, and buildings marked for preservation. A commercial frontage facing the coastal promenade is planned for the northern section of the complex, alongside a new underground entrance from HaYam Street leading directly to the emergency department. Furthermore, the initiative regulates the existing helipad and permits the construction of an additional helipad on one of the facility's rooftops.

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav welcomed the advancement of the plan, emphasizing the strategic importance of the medical center. "Rambam is far more than a hospital; it is a strategic asset for Haifa, the north, and the entire state of Israel as one of the country's most advanced and innovative medical hubs," Yahav stated. He highlighted the hospital's vital role during emergencies, noting that the expansion is an investment in public health and regional resilience.

Deputy Mayor and Head of the Sub-Committee for Planning and Building, Sarit Golan, added that the plan ensures the medical center's preparedness for future healthcare demands. "The initiative incorporates a substantial addition of beds, clinics, and research institutes alongside improved infrastructure and accessibility, reinforcing Haifa as a central medical anchor for northern residents," she concluded.
