Forecast: Rain in the east of the country, thunderstorms possible | Watch the radar
Temperatures will rise, but local rains are expected from the afternoon. In the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea, there is a risk of flash floods. The unusual weather will continue throughout the week with drizzles, rains, and a drop in temperatures.
Rain forecast for mid-August: The weather today (Saturday) will be partly cloudy, with a slight rise in temperatures. From the afternoon, local rains are expected, mainly in the east of the country, with isolated thunderstorms possible. Additionally, there is a risk of flash floods in the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea area. At night, conditions will remain partly cloudy.
Ahead of the expected rains, the Nature and Parks Authority has issued a series of warnings. It is strictly forbidden to enter riverbeds with flowing water, whether on foot or by vehicle, until the water level has completely subsided. Furthermore, approaching the edge of a riverbank during a flood is prohibited due to the risk of collapse.
"If you are interested in watching a flood, you should do so from a high and safe place, and not enter the riverbeds or the flow paths of the river," said the Arava rescue unit.
The maximum solar radiation index forecast for today is very high to extreme. Extreme heat stress is expected in the Kinnerot Valley, the Dead Sea coast, the Jordan Valley, and the Arava. Heavy heat stress is anticipated in the southern Golan Heights, Western Galilee, northern valleys, Lower Galilee, Mount Carmel and Menashe Heights, the Coastal Plain, the Shephelah, the northern Negev, the Judean Desert, and the eastern Negev.
Tomorrow, temperatures will remain similar, with rain expected in the east of the country starting in the afternoon. On Monday, a further drop in temperatures will be felt, bringing them slightly below average in the mountains and interior regions. Heat stress will ease, and morning drizzles are possible along the coast. Tuesday will be partly cloudy to clear with no significant temperature changes.
