According to the suspicion, two residents of Ramle arrived at a construction site in Moshav Shtulim to demand protection money from a contractor, a resident of Nazareth. After not finding him at the site, they approached his children and tried to convey threatening messages through them. Officers of the Lachish Central Unit located and arrested them.
Two young men in their 20s, residents of Ramle, were arrested yesterday, Tuesday, on suspicion of attempting to extort protection money from a contractor at a construction site in Moshav Shtulim. According to the suspicion, after they did not find the contractor at the site, they approached his children who were at the site and tried to convey threatening messages through them.
The investigation was opened following a report received by the police regarding threats allegedly directed at the contractor, a resident of Nazareth, as part of a construction project he owns. According to the suspicion, the two suspects arrived at the site during the afternoon hours with the goal of demanding money from him under threats.
Officers of the Lachish Central Unit (YAMAR) launched a focused operational activity, and within a short time located the two suspects and arrested them. The two were transferred for questioning at the unit.
Commander of the Lachish Central Unit, Superintendent Shahar Levy, stated: 'The Lachish Central Unit acts with determination and zero tolerance against any attempt to intimidate, extort, or harm business owners and entrepreneurs. We will continue to employ all intelligence and operational means to locate those involved, bring them to justice, and maintain public safety. Anyone who attempts to collect protection money or threaten citizens will encounter a determined police force and a swift response.'
