Deputy Minister Almog Cohen has filed a defamation lawsuit for 100,000 shekels against Channel 12 News, following reports that he claims attributed to him participation in the break-in at the Sde Teiman base, even though he says he was not involved in the actions attributed to him.

In the statement of claim, which reached C14, Cohen argues that the reports presented it as if he had participated in the break-in at the base, while he claims these are "false and crude reports" that have no basis in reality. According to him, the reports damaged his good name and public standing.

Cohen is asking the court to order Channel 12 News to pay compensation of 100,000 shekels for defamation. He claims that the channel attributed to him actions "that never happened," while presenting a false factual representation to the public.

In the background of the lawsuit is the Sde Teiman affair, which sparked a wide public outcry following the arrest of reserve soldiers suspected in the case. The events led to a protest by Knesset members, public figures, and citizens who arrived at the base, claiming that the soldiers were being treated inappropriately.
