First final for the Israeli delegation at the European Swimming Championships
An excellent start for the 4x200 meter freestyle relay team, which met expectations with a fourth-place overall finish (7:06.71 minutes). Aviv Barzelay and Tom Minis advanced to the semifinals in the women's 200m backstroke.
The Israeli national swimming team successfully began the first day of the European Swimming Championships in Paris on Monday, qualifying for the final in the 4x200m freestyle relay and two semifinals in the women's 200m backstroke. The 200m backstroke semifinal is scheduled for this evening at approximately 20:00, with the relay final to follow at 20:30.
The Israeli relay quartet, consisting of Denis Loktev (Maccabi Ashdod), Eitan Ben Shitrit (Jerusalem Rabbati), Alexey Glivinskiy (Hapoel Jerusalem), and Daniel Krichevsky (Aluma Ironi Hod HaSharon), secured their place in the final after finishing fourth overall in the qualifiers with a time of 7:06.71 minutes. Loktev, who led off, had a slow start in sixth place but recovered to gain four positions. Ben Shitrit slipped back one place during a tight race, but Glivinskiy and Krichevsky maintained the team's standing to secure Israel's first final of the championships.
Earlier this morning, Aviv Barzelay (Maccabi Haifa) and Tom Minis (Maccabi Haifa) advanced to the semifinals of the women's 200m backstroke. Barzelay finished tenth in the qualifiers with a time of 2:11.55 minutes, while Minis finished 15th with a time of 2:12.40 minutes, breaking her personal record.
