Israel Police Launch Inquiry Into Channel 14 Panelist Over Incitement Claims
Israel Police opened a preliminary inquiry into Channel 14 panelist Micha Lakin Avni over unverified claims that Arab medical staff poison Jewish patients.
The Israel Police have initiated a preliminary criminal inquiry into allegations of incitement to racism involving Channel 14 panelist Micha Lakin Avni. The investigation follows a controversial broadcast last week during which Avni claimed that Arab doctors and nurses in Israeli hospitals are poisoning Jewish patients and covering it up on a daily basis. Authorities noted that there is no substantiated evidence supporting these claims.
At this stage, law enforcement is conducting a preliminary review to examine the statements and surrounding circumstances before deciding whether to launch a full criminal investigation under caution.
Prior to the police action, the Association of State-Employed Physicians, led by Dr. Zeev Feldman, sent an urgent letter to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. The organization demanded a criminal investigation, consideration of defamation charges, and the preservation of interview footage and related evidence.
The association warned that the remarks constitute a sweeping accusation against an entire sector of medical professionals, potentially endangering the personal safety and professional reputation of Arab doctors and nurses while undermining public trust in the healthcare system.
