Police and Shin Bet Investigate West Bank Attacks Amid Security Disputes
Israeli police and the Shin Bet investigate recent attacks on foreign diplomats and a journalist in the West Bank amid rising friction during the olive harvest season.

Police and the Shin Bet are continuing their investigation into the assault on foreign diplomats in the village of Tayibe, alongside a separate probe into an attack on a Washington Post photographer. No arrests have been made yet, and investigators are facing challenges in obtaining cooperation from diplomatic missions to collect testimonies and forensic evidence.
Security Tension in the West Bank
The incidents have highlighted rising friction during the olive harvest season. A senior police official criticized the operational deployment of the IDF in Judea and Samaria, warning that a lack of continuous presence at known friction points risks leading to a total loss of control.
If they do not create a continuous presence at friction points known in advance during this period, we will reach a total loss of control soon, a senior police official stated.
In response, military sources noted that forces have been heavily reinforced across the region, stating that meeting expectations to cover every single spot would require at least 10 additional battalions.
Rabbinic Ruling and Condemnation
Meanwhile, the controversy deepened after Rabbi Dov Lior issued a religious ruling during the weekend permitting interference with Palestinians participating in the olive harvest. A senior military officer sharply condemned the ruling, calling it a disgrace to Judaism and to the country.
