Police Commissioner Considers New Spokesman Amid Clash With Ben Gvir

Police Commissioner Dani Levy is considering promoting police spokesman Chief Superintendent Aryeh Doron to head the Spokesperson Division. Doron will replace Deputy Commissioner Lior Abudraham, who is retiring from the force. Abudraham's name was linked about three months ago to the Ben Gvir associates affair, during which a senior female police officer filed a complaint against him alleging sexual harassment.

Doron's appointment comes against the backdrop of a dispute between Commissioner Levy and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir over the round of police appointments. Talks on the matter were scheduled to take place about ten days ago, but Ben Gvir canceled them, arguing that it would be appropriate to carry out appointments only after the elections.

However, behind the scenes, the focal point of the explosion is the identity of some of the appointees, including the head of the prosecution department and the deputy legal advisor. Despite Ben Gvir's sharp opposition, the first round of police appointments was completed that very evening, and the commissioner decided to appoint Commander Tamar Liberty to the position of deputy legal advisor. Ben Gvir escalated the confrontation and decided to freeze a budget of approximately 300 million shekels earmarked for the police.
