Tourist Outrage in Poland's Tatra Mountains After Deer Harassment
A video of tourists grabbing a deer by the antlers in Poland's Tatra Mountains sparks outrage. Park officials warn that feeding wildlife creates severe risks for both humans and animals.

A viral video from a hiking trail near Morskie Oko lake in Poland's Tatra Mountains has sparked widespread criticism over tourist behavior toward local wildlife. Footage shows a man grabbing a red deer by its antlers and pulling it, while other bystanders stand close by. In one segment, the animal attempts to butt one of the individuals.
According to reports, tourists sought to take photographs with the deer and continued to touch it despite its defensive reactions. Additional footage from the same area captures people petting the deer and feeding them directly from their hands.
Filip Zęba, deputy director of the Tatra National Park, told the Polish Press Agency that park authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident, utilizing surveillance footage among other measures. He noted that the deer's behavior reflects a prolonged process of habituation to human presence, primarily driven by repeated feeding and attempts to approach and touch the animal.
Park officials explained that the deer has learned to associate humans with accessible food, prompting it to seek out their proximity. Zęba emphasized that while this does not necessarily indicate natural aggression, such behavior creates hazardous situations for both tourists and the wildlife itself.
Park rangers are actively monitoring the animal and have deployed a specialized deterrent spray in an effort to encourage it to avoid close contact with humans. Authorities stated that it is currently too premature to determine the success of this measure. Visitors have been strictly urged to refrain from feeding wild animals, luring them closer, or attempting physical contact.
