Pakistan and Qatar have presented a new compromise proposal to the United States and Iran to prevent a fresh round of fighting and bring both nations back to the negotiating table, the Qatari-owned newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the mediation efforts.

The Compromise Details

The proposal was delivered to senior officials in Tehran by Pakistan's Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who arrived in the country leading an official delegation. According to the report, the initiative has received American approval and a preliminary positive response from Iran.

One of the central components involves frozen Iranian funds held in Qatar banks. Under the compromise, it is proposed to release the interest accrued on six billion dollars of frozen funds, rather than the full amount itself.

In exchange, Tehran would agree to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct an unannounced visit to Iranian nuclear sites, addressing key U.S. demands.

Diplomatic Expectations

Qatari officials anticipate a breakthrough this week, potentially preventing further military escalation in the region. Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry confirmed that message exchanges and visits between the parties are ongoing through mediators.

  • Pakistan and Qatar previously mediated a June understanding.

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also visited Tehran recently.

  • No official announcement regarding a final agreement has been made yet.
