Construction Site Crackdown: Operations Halted and Contractors Detained in Central Israel
Police, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Construction and Housing have shut down two construction sites in central Israel. Authorities suspect the contractor continued operations despite a license suspension, a period during which a fatal workplace accident occurred.
In a joint operation conducted by officers from the PALS unit (workplace accident investigations) of Lahav 433, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Construction and Housing, work was halted today (Tuesday) at two construction sites in the Sharon area and Tel Aviv. The sites were managed by a contracting company whose license had been suspended.
As part of the operation, 5 individuals involved were detained for questioning at the Lahav 433 offices. According to police, the investigation was initiated following a referral from the Registrar of Contractors at the Ministry of Construction and Housing and the Administration of Safety at the Ministry of Labor. The report indicated that the contractor continued to manage sites despite a license suspension issued in early June due to severe safety deficiencies discovered during inspections.
It was further reported that following the suspension, the company continued its operations, and later that same month, a fatal work accident occurred at one of the sites under its management. Following a covert evidence-gathering phase, detectives from the PALS unit, alongside representatives from the Administration of Safety and the Registrar of Contractors' investigation unit, arrived at the sites to stop all work and detain the suspects.
The Israel Police stated:
"The Israel Police in general, and the PALS unit in particular, will continue to wage a stubborn fight against negligent and criminal activity in the construction industry."
