OpenAI expects to burn 287 billion dollars in cash between 2026 and 2030 as it scales up spending on computing power and infrastructure, according to a Financial Times report published on Friday, citing a company presentation. The forecast highlights OpenAI's massive funding needs as it seeks new investments.

Earlier this week, the newspaper reported that the company held talks with investors valuing it at approximately 1.2 trillion dollars ahead of a planned IPO. In June, OpenAI filed documents toward an initial public offering, though CEO Sam Altman recently stated the firm will not go public in 2026 due to AI safety concerns.

The company projected a negative cash flow of 278 billion dollars for the 2026-2030 period while investing heavily to secure the computing power required to train and run its AI models. OpenAI anticipates a tenfold surge in revenues over the same timeframe, climbing from 36 billion dollars this year to 350 billion in 2030, with cumulative revenues projected to reach 840 billion dollars by the end of the decade.

The Financial Times added that the company anticipates spending 856 billion dollars on computing power and infrastructure through the end of 2030. Although OpenAI raised 122 billion dollars in March at a valuation of 852 billion dollars, those funds are expected to run out by 2028.
